Scape is a celebration of connection and culture that emerges from the earth into the sky. Part plant, part data visualisation, Scape is informed by a diverse convergence of histories. Its name comes from the botanical term that refers to a long leaves stem that emerges from a root or bult. As a reflection of the richness of this site, Scape) gathers together a palette of colours and forms that reference past, present and future motifs.
The flower and foliage of the Murnong (Yam Daisy), a staple food for the local Wurundjeri people for thousands of years, is represented through the yellow and green whilst the colours red and white preserves the memory of the iconic striped boom gates. The black and white stripes distil the high contrast livery and signage of the old crossing. The nearby screens on the Glenroy Road bridge echo both the Murnong and striped boom gates and explore a pictorial reflection on the layered history of the area.
